Our Bodega tour is a journey through the history of Spanish wine, sherry & brandy, which is closely intertwined with the history of the region. Our guide perfectly explains the wine-making process in the bodegas and its place in the history of Spain. We visit smaller family-owned bodegas far off the beaten path of mass tourism.
Although the roots go back far, the importance of these wineries began with the discovery of the New World, which was led from Seville. Did you know that at that time, up to one-third of a ship's cargo could consist of wine? This was something the crew had no problem with. Since it was mandatory to bring large quantities of fruit, and wine was made from grapes, it was the perfect solution.
We start our tour in Seville, where we take the bus to the beautiful village of La Palma del Condado in the province of Huelva. Bodegas Rubio is our first stop. This is the place where the world-famous Luis Felipe brandy is made. The history goes back to the discovery of some forgotten oak barrels of wine left behind by the French Duke Luis Felipe. This aged wine had a very different taste from the cognac known at the time. During the visit to the winery, you will learn all about the mystery and aging process of Luis Felipe, and we will have the opportunity to taste this very exclusive drink.
After this visit, we leave the village for a short walk through the vineyards. Here, the owner will tell you all about the local wines, the grapes used, and the production process. Then, you can enjoy a tasting with an aperitif in the middle of the vineyards, with beautiful views of the valley where the village is located.
Our last stop is at a small family bodega. After a short tour, we sit down for an intimate private lunch among the wine barrels in the bodega.
